Embedded Software Engineer

We are currently developing a new platform for our battery management system (BMS) solutions. The timing is perfect for an experienced embedded software engineer to join our team at a point where there is still the chance to provide input into critical design decisions. Following a de-brief on existing platforms that may be worth building on as well as our existing code-base, the successful candidate will have plenty of freedom to design new algorithms to be used in our next generation safety-critical automotive BMS before getting stuck into the coding, debugging and testing.

While not essential, there is the option to for the person filling this role to lead the BMS development team including our other engineers and technicians assisting with development and testing during this project. Alternatively, it is also fine for the job to allow complete focus on development without any management requirements if that is preferred.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in embedded software development and testing
The ability to work efficiently without compromising quality
Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues while being comfortable with communicating new ideas and opinions
Highly knowledgeable on microcontroller architecture and firmware development for microcontrollers
Working knowledge of real-time embedded systems and firmware development in C/C++
Extensive background designing, implementing and debugging communications using CAN, SPI, I2C, etc.
Proficiency with interpreting documentation and hardware schematics
Knowledge of secure data transfer and storage strategies particularly for fail-safe firmware updates
Ability to turn advanced mathematical concepts and complex algorithms into efficient and reliable code
Experience with higher-level software (Python or similar) for creating scripts used for testing and production

The following would also be an advantage:

Experience within the automotive industry, specifically BMS or powertrain
Familiarity with lithium ion battery chemistries and characteristics
An interest in electric vehicles
Some project management experience and the ability to estimate project timelines
Familiarity with version control systems
Bachelor or higher degree in EE, CE or CS
